Sweatshirt piling up after just few wears

Bought sweatshirt in early 2020. Worn only a few times and washed inside out and not put in dryer. Pulled out recently and it looks very worn and a lot of piling. Loved this shirt and would love to have another one if quality is bettter. Very disappointed
