Despite the Jayhawk being widely used for years, fans weren't sure what one looked like. Henry Maloy, a cartoonist for the student newspaper, brought the Jayhawk to life with his iconic drawing of the school's mascot. According to Maloy, he gave the Jayhawk logo shoes for "kicking opponents." Other popular names for the 1912 Jayhawk include Sexy Legs, Centennial Jay and Skinny Legs.
